So I bought Colin Mcrae Dirt other day and played for a few hours and all was well. I decided I had enough gaming so I would come back to it another day.
Anyway that next day came and when I fired it up all was well but when I started racing the game froze. The sounds continued but the game just wouldnt respond. I Ctrl+Alt+Delete out and started up task manager and killed the game. I just put the crash down to a one off glitch so I started up the game again. When I started racing again with a different car and track the same thing happened again but this time 2 minutes into the race. I wans’t too happy. I must have tried a few more time before I went in search to see others were having the same issue. Well sure enough there were.
I looked around for a few answers and there was one that came back that made sense and though I can give a go without to much effort and that was to block Colin Mcrae Dirt’s connection to the internet. It appears while your racing it makes connections to the internet. So I deleted Dirt from windows firewall exception list and lauched up the game.
After launching the game I must have played for 2 hours with no crashes. This blocking of Dirt to the internet has fixed the issue.
The only problem is what if u need Dirt to connect to the internet to play multiplayer? Well when I did some more digging around it appears that just one connection in Dirt causes the freeze and that is a connection to the IP 72.32.5.13 which aparently belongs to an advertising company. People have had success in just blocking that IP to fix the freezing problems and still be able to play online. Give it a go and let me know how you get on
